Reata Whippets LGRA meet

September was a wild month for us, and we got to enjoy another great LGRA meet on Saturday, September 30th. Sonic continued his undefeated streak and won each of the three heats, but the real surprise of the day was Phoenix, who really gave him a run for his money in the final heat, keeping the lead for the first 150 yards and only giving way to Sonic right at the finish line. Her competitive drive really seems to be lighting up now, and who knows, will she finally be the one to knock Sonic off his undefeated LGRA streak??

Phoenix earns her AKC Championship!

We continued our busy month of events with the Bonneville Basin Kennel Club AKC shows in Farmington, UT on September 16th and 17th. Phoenix was entered both days, and won 2nd place on Saturday and Winners Bitch and Best of Breed Owner Handled on Sunday to finish her championship with a third 4pt major! She also got to compete in the Group ring for the first time, and earned an Owner Handler Group 3!! Phoenix will now be taking a long hiatus from the show ring so that she can mature and pursue other adventures before we decide whether or not to try to earn her Grand Championship. She is a wild, wacky young girl and who knows where we might end up with her - possibly agility?

2017 GCA Central weekend

This year the Greyhound Club of America hosted a big three-specialty weekend in Greeley, CO in conjunction with the Evergreen Kennel Club shows. On Friday, September 8th there were back-to-back conformation specialties, the first time we had gotten to show to two separate judges on the same day. Sonic showed very well but was not shortlisted for any awards, and Rowan won the Coursing Dog class in both AM and PM shows. Phoenix usually takes a show or two to settle in, and was awarded 3rd in the Open Bitch class at the AM specialty, butby the afternoon had started to remember the show-dog game and won Reserve Winners Bitch! Saturday's show was a wash for both Sonic and Phoenix, but the afterno

2017 Windwalker Memorial

Every year USRCC sponsors memorial challenge in honor of Janie Hale's beloved Pharaoh Hound, Windwalker, where members' hounds compete in two separate ASFA trials to represent their breed at the end of the Labor Day trials in a Best in Field style runoff. Sonic was the high scoring Greyhound representative for the year, having won Best of Breed in both May and September to qualify. This year the weather was our enemy, and the other breed representatives chose not to run off, so Sonic ran for the Windwalker all by himself on Monday, September 5th. Windwalker was Janie's heart dog, and to have Sonic earn a place of honor on his memorial trophy is incredibly special, as he is MY heart dog.

USRCC Jackalope Challenge

The third running of the USRCC Jackalope Challenge ASFA Greyhound Specialty was held on Saturday, September 3rd at Janie Hale's property in Fillmore, UT. There was a total entry of 16 Greyhounds, with entries from Utah, Colorado and Arizona. The weather was almost as hot as the competition, with 8 Open entries, 5 Field Champions, 2 Veterans and a solo Singles entry vying for placements. The Best of Breed runoff was absolutely breathtaking, with Open stake winner was a lovely young NGA bitch owned by Rick Martin from Arizona, and the two Field Champion brothers Sonic and Strider (who tied for first) all battling for the win. Judges Jennifer Gysler and Dean Wright awarded SONIC the huge Best o
