Greyhound Club of America National Specialty

We made the journey from SLC all the way to the beautiful coastal town of Lompoc, California for the GCA National Specialty weekend, where we enjoyed three days of shows and a lure coursing trial with our fellow fanciers. It was a wild trip, full of emotional ups and downs, but the hounds performed well all weekend and we will carry the memories we made for many years.

Phoenix was a bright little star on the day of the specialty, winning Best Puppy in Specialty Show AND Best in Puppy Sweepstakes and earning her first trophy!!

After Phoenix got to strut her stuff in Sweepstakes and the Puppy classes, it was Sonic's turn to shine in the special Coursing Dog class, something only offered at the Western/National Specialty. He showed with his usual enthusiasm and had everyone laughing, and won not only the Coursing Dog class, but an Award of Merit at the Specialty - a HUGE deal considering his background as the only 'half and half' performance-bred NGA/AKC hound in the Best of Breed lineup.

Rowan may not have come away with a 'hat trick' third Specialty BOB win, but he did earn an Award of Merit and showed with his usual poise and dignified grace on Friday, and picked up his FIFTEENTH major towards his Bronze Grand Championship by winning Select Dog at Sunday's supported show under an esteemed judge from Australia.

Hopefully we will have photos from Sonic's win at the Lure Coursing trial soon - stay tuned!!
